Hey Folks !
Winter in Europe could easily bring you down and your work starts to become much more difficult when it comes to get inspired and develop new ideas. In a good mood, creativity could start from pretty much anything that surrounds you or brings your attention. From this “je ne sais quoi”, your mind engages a sort of rolling process ending up in a more or less precise vision of this idea. There is no specific way to find inspiration, that for sure. You never know when it starts but you always feel it flying away.. Walking around in a cold winter night, I end up right in the middle of the Paris Christmas Market taking place on the Champs Elysées. Originally from Strasbourg in France ( started around 1570 ), the Christmas Markets are characterised by small stalls lined up in a central city district where you can experience traditional food and discover some of the most iconic and popular French products. Amongst the crowd, you can find handcrafted wool socks, Charentaise slippers, smelly cheese... and obviously mulled wine! Mulled wine is THE traditional hot drink during winter. Very easy to make: put together red wine, orange segments and a pinch of cinnamon in a large heated cooking pot. This is the survival drink to fight against the cold. Mulled wine has this magical power to warms up anyone who get close to it and brings people together. Just the smell of it gives you its sweetness! And there it is actually, the basis of a good design: simple and genuine things. Taking the time to share simple food with others is just great. We are usually more sensitive to genuine products. When in our society, products are getting more and more complicated, we loose the original use of it. Today, brands are desperately adding functions or unnecessary details to their designs. Followers get lost and there are good chances you end up losing your audience. I guess it’s quite good sometimes to get back to basis and keep it simple. As famous designer Dieter Rams says : “ users react very positively when things are clear and understandable. Good design is honest”. The origin of your design should be reachable by the person you are targeting. And that might be the key about finding inspiration: think genuine, trust simplicity As a conclusion, Keep your eyes wide opened, inspiration is everywhere, every time, even in mulled wine!
